A Hill Country Lights Spectacular
You’ve eaten all your turkey, stuffed yourself with stuffing, had yourself a nice nap, and watched the Cowboys beat the Saints in a football showdown; Thanksgiving is officially over. This year to ring in the Christmas season, head down to Johnson City for the 21st Annual Lights Spectacular for the annual lighting of the courthouse and Pedernales Electric Cooperative office in downtown Johnson City. Events will start Friday night and run through Saturday evening with plenty of fun activities for the whole family including a special appearance by Santa himself.
Starting Friday evening at 6:30pm, “Let there be Lights” will begin. Before the lighting of the courthouse, this year there will be a fireworks show that is set to music to kick start the fun. Afterwards make sure that you are near the courthouse to watch the official lighting of the courthouse. Did you know that courthouse is decorated each year with 100,000 lights? After admiring the courthouse walk down to Avenue F to see the one million light display (Yes! One Million lights) at the Pedernales Electric Cooperation office. While enjoying the light displays be on the lookout for Santa as he will be making a special appearance. Carriage rides, hayrides, and a live band will all be present for the family to enjoy. Should you get hungry or want a warm drink to sip on, food and beverages will be available at the Chuck Wagon Food Court located next to the Johnson City Bank.
On Saturday afternoon at 3pm, get ready to partake in the second annual 5k Lights Spectacular Run. Following the run and beginning at 5:30pm the real fun begins with a special performance by the Clickety Cloggers. This will be their 17th consecutive year to perform at the Johnson City Lights Spectacular. At 6:30pm, the Lighted Hooves and Wheels Parade will begin with another special appearance by Santa. In addition to the Clickety Cloggers and the parade, there will be live music, carriage rides, and hayrides. Also, don’t forget to go inside the courthouse lobby where the Johnson City Garden Club will be selling Christmas crafts and annual ornaments.
Should you happen to miss this weekend’s events, the Johnson City Courthouse, PEC office, and surrounding area will be lit all the way through January 1st. Additionally, there will be various Christmas events during the month of December such as the Living Story of Christmas and Christmas at the LBJ Boyhood home. Whether you visit Blanco County during the year or at the holidays, visiting Johnson City during Christmas will surely be a memorable Christmas experience.
